Baptisms, Weddings & Funerals

From the cradle to the grave 'God is not far from each one of us, for in God we live and move and have our being.' cf Acts 17.27,28.

Baptismal font

Baptism is a ceremony of welcome, thanksgiving and belonging to the church. It celebrates the gift of life and of God's love made known in Jesus.

At St Mark's, Baptism normally takes place as part of one of the regular Sunday celebrations. At least one month's notice is normally required.

Each candidate for Baptism is sponsored by one or more persons. Such sponsor(s) or Godparents, may be the parents themselves and/or others close to the family. Sponsors need to be baptised Christians and, if the candidate is a child, able to sincerely make declarations of faith and commitment on behalf of the candidate.

Sponsors are welcome to obtain a Bapismal candle prior to the day - it is lit and presented to the baptised (or sponsor) as part of the service. It should be large enough that it can stand by itself. It is known that the shop 'Baby Angels & Eternity Weddings' at Peakhursrt can provide personalised candles with about a week's notice - appointments required [Telephone +61 (0)412 387 414]

There are no fees for baptisms. Baptismal families are welcome to make a voluntary thank-offering of say $200 to mark the special occasion.

To arrange a baptism please complete a baptismal application and contact the Rector.

For certified details of previous baptisms from 15 January 1984 onwards, please contact St Mark's office. For baptisms prior to that date, please contact the Sydney Diocesean Archives.

Wedding bouquet

St Mark's provides a beautiful setting for weddings. We work with couples to ensure that their marriage service reflects their uniqueness as they celebrate their love and commitment to each other.

All couples are expected to participate in a program of preparation for marriage called 'Prepare'.

Bookings for a wedding need to be made at least 3 months in advance to allow time for this preparation and for organisation of the service.

Fees: The following fees apply when St. Mark's supplies the following services:

  • Church $300 (including verger and audio visual)
  • Celebrant (by negotiation)
  • Organist $150
  • Choir $250

Couples may also make a thank-offering to God to mark their wedding day.

St Mark's can recommend a local florist, with whom the bride and groom can make arrangements.

Please complete an initial application and forward to the Rector.

For further information or to book a wedding contact the Rector.

The Rector is available to provide pastoral care and support at times of bereavement.

Funerals may be held at St Mark's Church, a crematorium / cemetery chapel or at the graveside.

If St Mark's Church is used, the fees are:

  • Church $300 (including verger and audio visual)
  • Priest (by negotiation)
  • Organist $150

Families may also make a thank-offering to God to mark the celebration of the life lost.

St Mark's can recommend a local florist, with whom the family can make arrangements.

St Mark's Hall may be available to enable an opportunity for a time of sharing with appropriate refreshments after the service. We can provide the names of local caterers.
